Introduction:

Katra Masjid is a former Mosque and Tomb of the Nawab Murshid quli Khan . Tha mosque was built between 1723 to 1724 . It's hard to believe that the masque is actually a Tomb. It is one of the largest Caravanserais in Inaian sub continent.

It was built in 18th century, when the early morden Bengal subah was a major hub of trade in Eurasia . The Katra Masjid is Located in north eastern side of city of Murshidabad. The most strikeing features of the construction are two large corner Tower.

Having loopholes for musketry. The site is maintain and protect by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Tomb and The Mosque of Murshid quli Khan are ASI listed monument.

Murshid Quli Khan is reaching old age, express his desire to making this Masque. He entrusted the responsibility for construction the Mosque🕌 to his trusted follower who is an architect Murad Farash Khan. Murad Farash Khan make the whole design of the Masque.

The Mosque stand on the square plinth. It is brick built Mosque and surrounded by double sorted doom cell, which were built for who read Quran in those days. They can also be called Madrasha . There are 700 Quran reader in those rooms. All the rooms are closest to a huge courtyard. There are four big minner stand on four corners.Front of the two tower 70 feet hight and 25 feet in diameter.

The amazing things is the mosque has no Piller support,but it has been given support of plain raised platform below the Mosque.The many think of the mosque has been destroy in 1897 earthquake. The enter of the Mosque is by fourteen flight of Stairs from the east , Nawab Murshid Quli Khan was buried under the stairs.

Nawab Murshid Quli Khan's last wise was buried under the mosque stairs because he was repetent for Misdeeds committed by himhim and order this out humility.
